This 5-Day adventure offers a spectacular selection of locations showcasing some of the most iconic landscape along the Western Australian coastline, 400 million years old inland River Gorges, an array of wilflowers in season and sparkling nights under the stars. Capture the ever changing shadows a the Pinnacles Desert under the stars, the striking Pink Lake, Nature Window, Z-bend, Hawk Head and the historical 1847 Abbey of New Norcia, nestled deep into in the Wheatbelt.

Enjoy an open fire dinner in Kalbarri, fresh local crayfish in Cervantes, tasting in Swan Valley wine region and the renowned monastery’s home made bread and olives in New Norcia.

Day One

Heading out off Perth, the lush green wine region of the Swan Valley will take us to the untouched bush & wetlands of the Chittering Valley, in the northern hills of the Darling Range.

Our first stop is the Abbey of New Norcia. Established in 1847, the town offers an abundance of historical old buildings to test your architectural photographic creativity. Monks can be seen time-to-time walking outside the monastery, please respect their privacy.

The second part of the day will take’s us through the heart of the Western Australia’s Wildflower Country. We’ll spend the afternoon discovering the Midlands and the Wildflower Way colourful and magical landscape. Our motto for the day is go slow, get down and get close!

Day Two

Early start to catch-up the sunrise and explore the wildflower areas surrounding the Mullewa region. Experience the raw natural beauty, discover a rich pioneering history and enjoy the slower pace of life that Western Australia’s Wildflower Country has to offer, as we make are way slowly back towards the coast and onto Kalbarri.

Day Three and Four

Kalbarri is a photographer’s paradise, rugged coastlines, unspoiled horizons, beautiful beaches and amazing light combined to offer a never-ending smorgasbord of inland and coastal landscape to capture. In order for everyone to get the most out of our time together, there are a couple of things that you can do to help. Sunrise and sunset don’t wait for anyone, so timing is always critical. All our excursions and shoots have been planned around the ever-changing light, so it is crucial that everyone is organized and ready to go at the time we tell you. Of course if you decide that a sleep-in snuggle in under your Doona is more important than another sunrise or like to take some free time, you are more than welcome to stay back, but you may be sorry you did, when you see the shots that we come back with 🙂

As well as shooting landscapes in one of Australia’s most photogenic location, we will be showing you how to plan before going out on a shoot and showing you how to go about processing your images. We use Mac computers, however it is not a prerequisite. Most of our postproduction is done in Photoshop and Lightroom, if you don’t have it on your computer you can download a free 30 day trial.

Day Four

After a late morning checkout, we will make our way back down the cost to Cervantes, via the Pink Lake and Geraldton. The second part of our journey will take us back towards the coast through the rolling hills and iconic views of the Turquoise Coast. Finally, the Nambung National Park is one of the highlights of the day; the Pinnacle Desert offers a splendor of photographic opportunities, casting dramatic shadows with the ever-changing light all year round – a heaven for stargazing and night photography. Martial has been shooting nightscape images at the Pinnacles for many years and will be there to assist you with your lens selection and camera settings

Day Five

Our last day start with an early start to catch-up the sunrise at the Pinnacles this morning, before tracking back to our accommodation for a well deserved cooked breakfast. After checkout we’ll make the short drive back to Perth via the Swan Valley and time permitting we’ll explore some of the amazing wildflower and nature reserves in the shire of Gingin.

We’ll stop for some cheeky wine tasting in the Swan Valley ‘Perth wine region’ and enjoy a late lunch in the vineyards before saying our good byes back in Perth.

Personal Items & Weather Conditions

Temperature can range from: 8-24C in winter to 25-45C in the peak of summer

Average monthly rain for this time of year: 2day/ Jan-Feb- Mar and 8day/ Jun-Jul-Aug

Be organized and pack smart. Sturdy shoes, hat and sunscreen are essential. We will email you a more detailed and updated recommendation list on what to bring with your booking confirmation depending on the time of the years and weather conditions. I recommend packing a basic easy to grab jacket or lightweight rain coat, etc. in a smaller backpack or in your camera bag in case the weather changes suddenly.

Light weight rain jacket and rain pants. You don’t have to go all out here, but it will also help you to keep warm at night. * I really suggest a rain jacket if nothing else, the rain gear will keep you dry when walking in the parks. I have a pair of Teflon rain pants & jacket, super light and perfect to keep in you camera bag in case of a sudden change in the weather.

A warm jacket, long trousers and a jumper or light jacket during the winter month is a must. It can get really cold late afternoon with the sea breeze all year round.

Hat and sunscreen protection, water bottle is a must in Kalbarri.

Equipment

Camera Equipment

Your favourite DSLR camera, a multi focal lens (i.e 18-70mm) or fix lens, the wider the angle the better, and a medium to long-range lens (i.e. 80-300mm), plenty of memory cards and fully charged batteries. A small steady tripod & cable release for long exposure is essential. Don’t forget to bring your camera manual if you are not 100% sure about your camera functions. Please note that for better results a recent DSLR digital camera is preferable (0-5yrs old) as technology changes. Polarizer filter, Neutral Density and grabs filters are not a prerequisite but are great tools to have for long exposure and colour saturation.

These tours and workshops are suitable for beginners and advanced photographers of all ages, however a good sense of humour and minimum fitness is recommended. Sturdy shoes, suitable warm cloths, drink bottle and a good camera bag!
